Parent Checklist
Everything you need to prepare for your child's solo flight
📋 Before Booking
- ☐ Verify your child's age meets airline requirements (usually 5-14 for mandatory UM service)
- ☐ Check if airline allows connections for your child's age
- ☐ Confirm route is through approved hub airports (if connecting)
- ☐ Budget for UM service fee ($100-$150 each way)
- ☐ Have contact info ready for drop-off and pick-up adults
📄 Required Documents
- ☐ Child's birth certificate or passport (proof of age)
- ☐ Government-issued photo ID for drop-off adult
- ☐ Unaccompanied Minor Form (provided by airline)
- ☐ Emergency contact information
- ☐ Pick-up adult's name, address, and phone number
✈️ Day of Travel
- ☐ Arrive at least 2 hours before departure
- ☐ Check in at the ticket counter (no online/kiosk)
- ☐ Get gate pass to escort child to gate
- ☐ Stay at gate until flight departs
- ☐ Ensure child has ID lanyard/wristband from airline
🎒 Pack for Your Child
- ☐ Snacks and water bottle (empty through security)
- ☐ Entertainment (tablet, books, games)
- ☐ Phone with emergency contacts saved
- ☐ Small amount of cash for emergencies
- ☐ Comfort item if needed
- ☐ Copy of itinerary and contact info

- ! Ages 5-7 typically require nonstop flights only
